  • Does your child become easily overwhelmed? Do they often seem disorganised and forgetful? In trouble for forgetting their PE kit or homework? Perhaps they do not seem to learn from their mistakes or know where to start a task. This online session explores how differences in executive functioning can impact on our child's ability to stay focused, problem solve, and complete tasks. There will be suggestions and strategies of how we can support our children to manage their executive functioning differences and how they should be supported in the school environment. This 2-hour session is for families with children aged 0 - 25 and will be delivered ONLINE via Zoom. This workshop will be recorded. The workshop will be delivered by Corrina from Platypus Training, who has a wealth of personal and professional experience of neurodiversity and a masters in Autism. She has worked as a Family Services Manager for over 15 years and has developed services for families, children and young people. Corrina has extensive experience of working with families where there are neurodivergent children. Please note that, due to our funding, our workshops are only open to parents/carers/professionals who live or work in South Gloucestershire (or who have a child at school in South Glos). Your child does not need a diagnosis for you to attend. Join us 29th April 7pm, to book please click the link in the comments.

  • “Masking” refers to when an individual hides or suppresses symptoms, behaviours, or difficulties they are experiencing. While it can happen intentionally, it often occurs unconsciously over time as the person receives negative feedback for their authentic presentation. While many think of masking as a neurodivergent behaviour, particularly for autistic people or those with ADHD, people with various diagnoses mask for a variety of reasons. This workshop covers: What is Masking? What is Fawning? How does it impact the individual and the family? How can we identify and support it? This 2-hour session is for families with children aged 0 - 25 and will be delivered ONLINE via Zoom. This workshop will be recorded. The Dyslexia Delphi Study brought together experts to create a clear, consensus-driven definition of dyslexia, helping to reduce confusion and misinformation. The BDA fully supports this definition, which will be integrated into our resources moving forward. • Today, the three Parent Carer Forums across Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire had the privilege of meeting with Daniel Cheesman CEO of Jessie May and Team. These conversations are so important, as they give us as PCFs the opportunity to connect with organisations that provide crucial support to families. Understanding the experiences of the families we represent helps us to advocate more effectively and ensure their voices are heard. It was incredibly touching to see the incredible work that Jessie May does to support families, offering care, compassion, and much-needed respite during difficult times. A huge thank you to Daniel, Andrea, Steve and Alice who met with some of the SGPC team last week. Thanks for making us so welcome and taking the time to meet with us and share the invaluable impact of their work. Looking forward to continuing these important conversations! #ParentCarerForum #FamilySupport #Collaboration #JessieMay #MakingADifference NSPCWT - North Somerset Parent Carers Working Together Bristol Parent Carers
